I've always admired Nevermore Vintage, an Etsy shop featuring vintage finds. I am not a jewelry wearing type of girl, but I do like to collect brooches and other pretty things that catch my eye. With that being said, I think this brooch would be perfect with a pinstripe pencil skirt, cream top (tucked in) and pretty mary jane high heels, think Mad Men.

I've been MIA, but I'm back. Life threw me a curve ball at the worst possible moment. With that being said, let's get back to it! I've had this bracelet on my favorites on Etsy for awhile now. I have a great fondness for maps. When I came across this bracelet, I knew it had to make our "Love List." The bracelet is made out of wood and decoupaged with scraps of recycled map paper by SquishySushi. So pretty!

One of my clients I give private sewing lessons to wanted to make some floor cushions for her son's nursey. I went through all of my reference books and came across In Stitches by Amy Butler. I've always liked Amy Butler's patterns because they are very easy for the novice sewer to follow. These cushions are pretty easy to make, I think the hardest part of making the floor pillow is attaching the top and bottom buttons. Since I moved my living room furniture away from the TV (again), I might just sew up a couple of floor pillows!

I love this sofa by Sprucehome. The mink colored linen compliments the beautiful asian-themed cushion fabric and the frame painted in black semi-gloss gives the piece a classic style. If the cushion fabric is too much, you can turn the cushions around to simplify the look. I prefer the bold fabric print. I might just have to check out Sprucehome for myself, it's based in Austin, TX.

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to blog today. I've spent the last two weeks in pain and recently (yesterday morning) had surgery. But I'm feeling much better than I have since I went on vacation almost a month ago. So, remember I was telling you all about a couple great shops I found while perusing? Beki Wilson's Esty shop Outofline is another cool shop I've fallen in love with because of it's simple, clean designs. It was hard for me to pick out an outfit that I wanted to feature, but I narrowed it down to a t-shirt and a jersey dress. Then I took into consideration the Texas heat and went with the dress. I can see myself doing everyday errands in this dress or going on a girls night out with my daughters. Either way, this is the perfect summer time dress for summer time fun. Since I haven't been feeling well over the past two weeks, I've spent more time browsing the Internet than I should be. I found several Etsy shops that offer beautiful clothing items that have my creative juices flowing. The first shop is GoGothic. The owner of the shop has over 30 years of sewing experience!

Although it is hard for me to pick out a favorite from the shop, I settled on this knit dress. It's perfect for a date night. I can picture myself at the Odd Duck on South Lamar in Austin in this simple, but beautiful, knit dress under the twinkling lights with my husband. Ah...heaven.

This gorgeous crib mobile is so easy to make it' almost ridiculous. And it's so adorable! I don't even have babies and I want to make one of these. Sew She Sews has the full tutorial on her blog. When I have my own kids I'm definitely going to give this one a try.

I really, I mean, really want this. It's called Zoku, it makes healthy, ice pops in minutes. Apparently, the Zoku comes with a base that you store in the freezer. You get six sticks and drip guards. You then add or make your healthy or not so healthy ice pops, once made you put them into the base and presto in a few minutes you have ice pops. Okay, now seriously, this post could be love number 1-100 for me. I could just reblog about how much I love this show every. single. day. (Why haven't I blogged about this before now!) I've turned my family, who originally shot me raised eyebrow looks for my love for this show, into massive fans. In my opinion there are two kinds of people: people who love Doctor Who, and people who haven't seen it yet! (or at least, not enough of it)

If you don't know what it's about, basically it's a British show about a time traveling man from another world who goes through time and space having adventures, saving the universe, and takes along a human or two for the ride.

There is nothing in this show that is NOT to love. It can make you laugh hysterically, fall in love, cry your eyes out, and terrify you, sometimes all in the same episode! You might say, but Sara, I don't like sci-fi. Well that's okay, because at its essence, it's not sci-fi at all. It's a fairytale, that just happens to take place in all of time and space. And it's a family show, no blood, no sex, no more foul language than you'd find in a PG kid's movie. And it's brilliant.

Enough said.

I made my first movie/video on Imovie this weekend. I think I caught the director and editing bug. Once I pulled my hair out a couple dozen of times, I actually enjoyed myself. In fact, doing something like this was really easy once you did a trial and error run through.

Unfortunately, the imovie is available on the Macs. The good news is, if you were or are like me and own a Mac, and have never tried this feature, oh.....what are you waiting for?

So I love my hair curled or in waves, but I hate spending all that time attached to my curling iron. Plus, my hair is kind of long, but not very thick, so I'm always worried about damaging my hair by using too much heat on it. So to give my hair some pretty waves, without the time and heat I went in search for some solutions.

Here's a few of what I found. With all of these methods you spend about 5-10 minutes in prep time, and then you go to bed and wake up with curls! It feels so vintage.

If you have thicker, coarse hair, this tutorial is good for you:

If you have layers, or hair that isn't as long, this one is good for you (but it also works great for long thick hair too!):

If your hair is a little longer, you can get amazing curls using nothing but a sock! (or socks!) Check 'em out!

There are lots of other ways you can curl your hair without heat. Explore youtube some more, or go make up your own way! I used to get great waves by putting my hair into 4 french braids. Two on the sides, on on the top, and one in the middle on the bottom. Do it with slightly damp hair and put a head scarf on while you sleep so it doesn't get too frizzy, and you'll get fabulous waves the next day. I had so many people asking me if I had naturally curly hair, and it was just braids! So go experiment, and if any of you try it, we'd love to see photos!

Love #41 - Potty Park

As a lover of small things, including small dogs, like chihuahuas, I LOVE the potty park! There are several versions of this, many available on Amazon (mine has sides, like a litter box) and I tell you, it is worth it! With the horrible weather we have had this spring, I spent many a moment thanking the Lord above that someone invented this small, easy-to-clean option, THE alternative to taking your dog outside to do his/her business, so I didn't have to stand in the pouring rain while my pup swam around in mud to potty! They come in all shapes and sizes, and can be inside or on the patio. My pup uses his with no problem, and it is a cinch to clean outside every few days! (I put a potty pad under the grass and change that often, and clean the entire park with hot soapy water and bleach every 3 days. I also lay a piece of toilet paper down to catch #2. Sounds like a bit of work, but, compare that to picking up 20 piles of poo in your back yard after a rain storm!) If you have a dog under 25 pounds I highly suggest looking into one!

If you read the blog at all you know that I love to cook. You also should know that I'm really, really (no, really) lazy when it comes to cooking. If it's not easy, I won't do it!

Pampered Chef has always been one of my favorite places to get fun and functional cooking items, but it had been awhile since I had checked them out. I found this Manual Food Processor while looking through the catalog at my friends party and needed it. The gals all told me I would love it. I do.

It's so easy to use (and you get a little arm workout in the process). AND it's so easy to clean. If you have one, you know it's probably one of the best tools in your kitchen EVER.

Anyone else love Pampered Chef as much as me?

I adore Anthropologie's gorgeous clothing so so soooo much, but that's a post for another day. Because today, I'm writing about their SUPER cute measuring cups that stack up to look like a milk bottle. I'm beyond in love with them. And the lovely colors on the inside made me fall in love with them even more. They are china AND dishwasher safe. Fabulous. I have this slight obsession with things that manage to be both vintage and modern at the same time, so as soon as I saw these my heart skipped a beat. Who knew one could fall so in love with measuring cups. But I did. ♥

I'm in a baking mood today, so I've decided to blog about Serious Eats' cookie-stuffed cookies. Let me tell you these cookies are AMAZING. And my family agrees. I made the oreo-stuffed cookies, with a few tweaks of my own (2nd photo is my version) and they were devoured in a day. I used my favorite crisco recipe and put the oreos on the baking sheet then covered them with the cookie dough. The website walks you through the baking steps and provides a plethora of photos. You can use just about any cookies for the "stuffing." Wouldn't Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies be amazing with a chocolate cookie batter?! YUM YUM.

I think one of my friends on Etsy favorite-d this shop, then I saw it. And then I fell in love. Though I really like the look of gauged earrings, I don't want to stretch my ears.

These Fake Gauge Nava Wings earrings make it so I don't have to! They are so cool. They are handmade from salvaged water buffalo horns so no animals were harmed to get them! The design is so fun and funky!

I've found many other designs I love too, but you'll have to check out the shop for that- TribalStyle!

So we all know that Martha Stewart is a crafty, creative, megalomaniacal genius, and you can find so many fabulous ideas on her website. But these really did throw me for a loop. mismatched teacups in a drawer. They are gorgeous, and SO simple.

I'm always struggling with organizing my jewelry. It seems like all of my items get jumbled together in one small box, and I'm always untangling things. If I had several small dishes to put things in, it would seriously make my life so much easier.

Now I don't have any mismatched china, but I will totally go to the thrift store to buy some! This is definitely one of the prettiest and easiest ways to organize jewelry that I've ever seen.

Love #33- Italian Cheese & Herb Cooking Creme

I love cream cheese. Frosting especially, but when I saw the commercials for the Cooking Creme from Philly, I had to try it.

I really had no clue how it was going to taste... I was royally impressed.

Here is what I did:

I started a pot of water boiling, and when it was ready, tossed in a pound of rigatoni.

I cooked up a package of Hot Italian Sausage in a tablespoon or so of olive oil. I used skin on links. I advise cutting them while frozen or close to. It'll be way easier on you. Or, just use regular sausage and crumble it up.

As that was cooking, I added three cloves of fresh garlic (I bet granulated would be just fine) then salt and pepper too.

When it was done, I added a can of drained diced tomatoes. I didn't drain any of the fat or olive oil.

I added two heaping spoonfuls of the Cooking Creme (about half the container) and, from the tomatoes and oils, it turned a little red. It smelled so amazing. Not only does the creme smell wonderful by itself, but as it's cooking, it just blows your nose... er, mind. You get what I mean.

My man eats big meals, but even this one batch would have comfortably fed 5 people. I'm pretty sure I spent less than $10 on the whole thing, too. A wonderful, easy meal add in... You gotta try it!

Love #32 - Awesome Pancake Dispenser

When I first saw this on Real Simple I thought, "Ew, what's up with that ketchup!" But then I realized that it was just recycled to be used as a pancake dispenser, and I was giddy with delight. Easy, no mess (very unlike the batter splattered counter I usually end up with), and let's face it, it just looks really fun. Plus, clean up is really easy. Just fill with some warm soapy water and shake.

You can make Mickey Mouse pancakes, or bunches and bunches of silver dollars, or you could even get crazy and draw hearts, or make letters, or anything that sparks your fancy.

I'm totally going to save the next big ketchup bottle I use up and try this.

Love #31 - Keep Calm and Carry on Pencil Set

I really like the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' slogan since I usually tend to worry about things I can't change. It is a good reminder to breathe and keep going. I really like this pencil set from Zgallerie, a set of 12 pencils in a tin case.

The British Government used this poster in 1939 during the beginning of the Second World War, intending to raise the spirits of the British in case of an invasion. Then in 2000 this poster was rediscovered and now the slogan appears on a variety of things.

I was watching tv late one night and I saw an advertisement for a ice cream maker attachment for the KitchenAid Mixer. I've had my mixer for a really long time. My family and I hardly ever eat out due to our financial situation, so I use it almost everyday. The attachment lets you turn the mixer into an ice cream maker. You just turn on the mixer, pour in the batter and let the dasher and freeze bowl do the work. The attachment takes about 20-30 minutes to make up to two quarts of soft ice cream, sorbets and frozen desserts. Think of the money you could save with making your own ice cream. Maybe I'll put this on my birthday wishlist!

Love #29 - Gardening tools

I spent most of my day gardening today. We have a rather large rock garden filled with ground covers, like Sedum and some other fun things.

Unfortunately, last year I kind of let the weeding/grass pulling slide towards winter. This year, my hands, back and booty aren't very happy with me! All that bending, yanking, pulling, more yanking is tough work on the bod, but so worth it.

My dad actually purchased this telescoping pole for himself (I used it first) and I love it. Instead of having to bend, dig my hands in, then yank the grass out by the roots, I used the cute little rake part... And standing gave me lots of extra leverage, so pulling was a breeze!

I also purchased a new trowel this year, because, well, a flimsy one just doesn't cut it! This one is badass. Yes, I said badass. Super strong and it has a lovely grip. It's no wimpy trowel.

I started the back garden too, which is solely for veggies and they both worked wonders in their too.... Also, both are totally affordable! :D

I stumbled across this fabulous shop not too long ago and I'm so in love with these gorgeous yarn wreaths I could squeal. I've never seen a wreath made from yarn before, but I am already picturing how amazing one will look on my door, or in a bedroom, or a craft room. All those embellishments are so sweet, and interesting, and perfect. The one I have pictured is one that's already sold, but the shop has lots of other great wreaths too!

It had me thinking if I could make one myself, but could I really make one more perfect than this? I think not. It's so springy, and mod, and vintage, and awesome. Yarn wreaths, my new door decor must have!

oh and p.s.! I made that mozzarella grilled cheese for lunch today, and wow is it good! I'm going to make this for lunch so often I'm going to turn into a grilled cheese sandwich. I knew I'd love it.

I love oranges, and I kinda like grapefruit, so imagine my surprise when my friend told me about Cara Cara. Cara Cara is an orange/grapefruit hybrid.

I am not a big fan of meddling with food, as I have a pretty vivid imagination of some mad scientist with syringes and chemicals doing only God knows what on these fruits. But to my surprise it was an experiment that turned out to be delish.

The taste is sweet and low in acid. You also get the tiniest hint of grapefruit. The Cara Cara ranges from a deep tangerine color to a deep red. These oranges are very juicy and seem to vanish very quickly.

And although I never wear the ensembles, I enjoy creating them. I prefer jeans & a t-shirt, hair in a bun, and no makeup. I'm lazy like that. I was browsing through treasuries and I found the Etsy shop Beauty Spot. I really like her style. My favorite piece is the Ironical Locket. Love #23 - Chic & Simple Sewing

I'm posting today way later than I normally would, but for a good reason.

Usually, when I find something to blog about, it's because I want the thing, not because I have it. Last week, while browsing the sewing books at the library, I came across this book- Chic and Simple Sewing. I now have to buy it.

I'll admit that I'm not a good sew-er (Sewer just looks funny, right?), but I try. Two days ago I finished a quilt. It's so far from perfect, but I made it. The patterns all come with the book, so you can just cut and reuse them as many times as you want.

This is why I was so late posting: Today, brave woman I am decided to try one out. It's a cute little retro shift dress. I had the perfect patterned fabric, so why not right? It took me less than three hours to complete, even with cutting, sewing, ironing and all the good stuff. I still have to hem it, but that's up to whomever gets it.

Rarely do I actually get to say, go buy this thing because it's so worthwhile, but this book is awesome. If you know or want to know how to sew.... Or if you just want some easy projects.

It's well worth the $20 some dollars! I feel so amazed that I completed it.... So hope you can forgive the late posting! :D

The original Love #23 was Eat Pray Love... Still a wonderful book! I'm going to reread it soon!

Love #22 - Paper Flower Chrysanthemum

I adore this paper flower. It looks like a giant chrysanthemum. And oh yeah, it's a paper flower, wanna guess what kind of paper? This big gorgeous thing is made from toilet paper rolls, and LOTS of glue. Yup. Toilet paper rolls. I died. I couldn't believe it, but it's true! I found it on Myrtle & Eunice, and you can see how she made it there.

It was inspired by this craft on Growing Up Creative, which I also think is lovely. So many possibilities!

I can totally picture spray painting one of these aqua, yellow, or white, or even orange, and spray lacquering the whole thing shiny, and hanging it high in an entryway. Just watch people ask where you got that awesome "sculpture". haha!

It's spring again, and I've been in a VERY girly mood lately. In my world that means lots of pastels, skirts, heels, and ruffles. When I first saw this shirt I thought, "Wow! Where can I get one!" Then I realized it was a tutorial and you can MAKE it! The tutorial is from Tea Rose Home, and she used a $1 t-shirt. That's right, $1. Granted you need a little sewing know-how to make this, but not too much! I think it's great for a beginning sewer (I count myself in that category too).

It's so cute it makes me want to run into a thrift store and find a bunch of tank tops and t-shirts that match and go to town!

Our last love #21 was a KitchenAid Standing Mixer, and boy do I want one of those babies!

I saw this very unique and very 'fungi' looking footstool in the pages of Anthropologie a few months ago. I really adore this little mushroom, it's colorful, cheery, polka-dotted and sure to be a conversational piece. Though, it really wouldn't work with my decor, I envision this in a little kiddo's room or one of those homes with an 'eclectic' feel to it. But really who am I to say? If you fancy mushroom furniture and can pull it off, then go for it!

I am all for recycling! I love shopping at Goodwill, thirft stores, and garage sales to repurpose items. Taking old things and making them new again or altering them to create something new makes me very happy. I came across the Etsy shop Bottlehood and wanted everything in the shop. The items are amazing and though the prices are higher, than let's say Walmart, they are unique. And I believe the glasses, tumblers, etc. would be worth the money spent. Very cool!

How happy and sunny is this scarf?

I've been watching Boubo on Etsy for a while now. And I love the colors, textures and designs she uses for her scarves. This yellow one, though, is my favorite! The ruffle is so sweet. She also has the same design in Sea Green, but you'll be able to find one in any color you could possibly want!

Scarves are the perfect accessory. I especially love them in the summer... when you go from outdoors to freezing cold (Thank God for it) A/C filled rooms! So easy to transport!

I know right now there's so much of this royal wedding coverage it's beyond overkill. And if you're like me, you'd like to see a picture of Kate in her dress, and then be over with the whole media circus. But there's a hilarious little royal name generator on E!'s website that has me tickled pink. You put in your first and last name, and your city, and it gives you your own royal name.

I adore these cookie cutters from Williams-Sonoma. You get a few different shapes, and letters, so you can spell out all kinds of things on your cookies. When I saw these my jaw hit the floor. Whoever thought of these is a genius! I'm not a huge baker, but with something like these I could be!

What a great idea for a baby or bridal shower, or as a nice thank you gift for a friend Christmas, Valentine's day, 4th of July... There are so many possibilities with these, it really gets my brain working.

I am not much of a girlie-girl. I don't like a lot of pink, I've only recently started wearing make up (I'm almost 40) and I really don't like to carry a purse. I always feel liberated when I'm not carrying one, that is until I need something! My Coach bag has been my one and only for at least 10 years now.

With that being said, I instantly fell in love with this clutch purse from Bits and Purses. I love the cream pin tucked stripes, the ruffles, the embroidery (of course), and the ribbon lacing up the back! I can just see myself in jeans, a beaded blouse, gorgeous black 1920s inspired platforms and this clutch. Very cool.

Love #14 - Petunias

I love to garden. Minnesota has a rather short growing time compared to most places and we need really hardy plants. It's the end of April and we still run the chance of a frost.

With a pretty big rock/flower garden in our front yard and a vegetable garden in the back, I have a hard time keeping up with all my weeding. I've started on the front this week even though it's been chilly and I've made progress (Note: I am halfway done and just want to rip it all out, just to fight the grass that is taking over!). We have many perennials, like Sedum, which is great for ground cover, and Lilies, but just the simple ones that grow like weeds! Not the stunning Asiatic varieties, but I do love them too!

For bright bursts of colors I add Petunias. While visiting the nursery on Saturday, I picked out four little plants with no buds, so I don't know what color they'll turn out to be. I just know they will add a nice little spot of color with my basic ground covers and rocks. Being an annual, they are so easy to change out year-to-year. More often than not, I love the big pink ones in the pic, but the white ones are sweet too.

On my blog, I feature Etsy treasuries daily. I spend a good amount of time browsing Etsy Treasury and the chatrooms for treasuries that catch my eye. Late one Sunday night, I was browsing and fell in love with a beautiful black rose necklace by PoeticDesigns in a treasury inpsired by black items.

I am not a jewelry person. I have a few pieces that I wear when I go out or have a job interview (both situations rarely happen). So, I didn't purchase the necklace right away. Needless to say, the necklace is no longer available. However I found something in Yolanda's shop I love even more: an antique sewing machine pendant necklace! Love #12 - Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy

I really don't watch a lot of TV. Well, I listen to a lot of it, since I'm usually making things and focusing more on them than the screen.

One show makes it almost impossible to look away from though, Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy. More often than not I'm laughing so hard, my face hurts.

I have DVR, so I record each episode and watch at my own leisure. The last one I watched, Larry was digging for gold, helping out the St. Paul Saints (my local minor league team), and helping out a hospital choir. His dancing at the end with the choir had my crying I was laughing so hard. The man is funny.

It's 45 minutes long, but so worth it. The cool thing about the show is that you actually learn something too! The gold digging part was interesting and I, even as a local girl, didn't know about all the cool stuff that goes on at the St. Paul Saints games!

In keeping with the apparent Easter vibe I've got going this week:

I admit it, I still have a wee fascination with these sugar packed chocolate eggs. Granted I now need a giant glass of milk to combat the super sweetness, but I still love them. I look forward to when the stores carry them every spring so I can buy a few. And then, the other day, I came across this fabulous article on Confessions of a Cookbook Queen that tells you how to make them at home!

This person put them in the fridge to make them harder, but I'd eat them just how they come in the store. And! I can make them smaller, so I can enjoy the little treat without the complete sugar overload they give me now. Totally going to try these.

Our old Love #11 was Drew Jaeger. For now he's not selling on Etsy, but if you live in Minnesota, then lucky you, because you can still buy his work in a local gallery.

Love #10 - Fabulous Easter Eggs

Easter is coming up this Sunday, and I haven't done Easter eggs since I was a child. I've been itching to do some this year though, just for me, because they're fun. So I've been searching around and these are some of my favorite ideas:

These gorgeous eggs were made by Alisa Burke with nothing more than a sharpie and some creativity. And how amazing are they? I'm in love.

I found these great ones over at Home Made Simple. The number of uses for chalkboard paint astounds me.

These ones that I found over at Martha Stewart are a little more complicated than the first two, but still pretty easy. Take scraps of lace, wrap them up and tie with one of those tiny rubber hairbands. Let them soak for 15 minutes or so, take off the lace and this gorgeous pattern appears on the eggs. I LOVE it! The website even has a video so you can watch every step.

I'm not sure which ones I'm going to do yet. I might take a stab at all of them! Happy decorating!

I love jewelry. I make it. I admire other makers of jewelry.

Especially when I see items like this Cobalt Glow Necklace from the DandyApple. I actually sighed. It was love at first sight.

Isn't the blue just perfection?

THEN... I checked out the rest of her shop... and it is ALL wonderful. Her hair pieces are all simple, but bold. Her jewelry is all sweet, but bold. I like simple and sweet with a fun little kick.

The bright colors of the modern Lucite she uses, just makes me happy. They'd be very easy to mix with any outfit for a burst of color.

Also, I forgot to mention that nothing in her shop is over $20! I'd pay more for some items, but I love that it's so affordable!

Love #7 - Aloha2Summer

It's raining in MN. It's dreary. It's been a lovely 50-70 degrees for the last two weeks... I'm really ready for Spring, then Summer, just so I can wear cute flowy skirts (or dresses) and sandals!

Like this one, the Wrap Off White Pure Cotton skirt... This is the one piece that made me fall in love with Aloha 2 Summer!

Now you'll probably think I'm nuts when you go look at her shop. You'll say "How can this pale, though lovely, skirt be the one thing to make you fall in love with her shop?". Maybe I just like the simple things... Maybe I'm boring, I don't know.

I know this though, her shop is NOT boring! It's FULL of bright fun things, like this Tie dye wrap skirt and this Tie Dye strapless dress. They make me think of summer and sitting on the beach drinking, well, anything. As long as I'm relaxing in some lovely, flowy, bright (or cream) skirts and sandals.

Lucky Love #7 was about these Betty Crocker Warm Delights... They are still for sale and still delish! Though, if I want to look good in a swimsuit, I may have to NOT eat too many! :D

Love #5 - Kendi Everyday

Kendi Everyday is a blog that I recently stumbled upon, and I am SO in love with it I can't even tell you. Every day she posts herself in a different outfit from her closet. She puts things together in such cool and interesting ways. She does what's called "closet remixing". You can take the challenge! Take 30 items from your closet (this doesn't include accessories like scarves, winter coats, jewelry, etc), and for 30 days you make new outfits out of these 30 items.

It challenges you to think outside the box when it comes to the clothes you already own. Shop your own closet! And then, by the end of the challenge, you'll have a better idea of what you really have in your closet, what you don't need to buy, and what you do. So instead of going out and buying yet another dress or cardigan, or pair of jeans, see what you can do with what you already have! She's inspired me to see my own clothes in a new light. So I'm going to do some remixing before I go shopping for spring.

Our last #5 love was Communist Chicken. Looks like she isn't selling on Etsy anymore though. Oh the times they are a changin'.

Love #4 - Warped and Wonderful

Back in 2008, Love #4 was a dear friend's shop - Warped and Wonderful. We are still friends and I'm continuously amazed at the talented work she creates. I never really understood all the work that went into weaving, but over the years I've learned (from her) about different looms and yarns and such. It's really amazing

On your left is a Handwoven Wool Throw in a green diamond overshot pattern. I understood the Handwoven, wool, and throw part, but the rest kind of went over my head, so I read the description a little better.

She actually developed the pattern herself. And that is why I love handmade- It's unique!

This blanket is amazing, but she also has so many other lovely things in her shop. Please take a moment to check it out!

Love #3 - 400 Knitting Stitches

I've been a knitter practically since I can remember. My grandmother taught me the basics when I was 8 or so. There were a few years when I let it go and really picked it back up at 18 again. I won't say I'm good. That would be a lie. BUT- I can really follow a pattern well! :D

Actually, up until a few years ago, would only stick to the simple knit, purl, knit, purl stitches. Then I found some lovely sites that show instructions via video which made written patterns so much more understandable... And then I found cable knits. It took me until last year, at the tender age of 27, to figure out cabling.

Now, thank God for the public library, where I picked up this awesome book, 400 Knitting Stitches! It's not joking when it says it has 400 different stitch patterns. It's amazing.

My favorite part is that it has an in depth explanation of the knitting basics, from casting on to the basic knit and purl stitches to decreasing and increasing stitches. For you beginners, this knitting basic section and some lovely online instructional videos could have you knitting in minutes. No joke. You could be cabling tomorrow... and it wouldn't take you 9 years to learn!

And, if you are an experience knitter, there are tons of patterns I would never have thought of! The amount of crossed and cable, slipped, lacy, double, twisted, cast-off, and fancy will knock your socks off, but you'll be able to knit your own to make up for them.

It's the perfect book for any knitter! Now, I'll have to go buy one and return my copy to the library!

Love #2 -Owl Embroidery Scissors

Since I was a little girl, I've loved needlework. There's nothing better than curling up on the couch with my linen, pattern, floss, needle, and scissors in hand. I have collected numerous embroidery scissors over the 20+ years I've been stitching. When my family moved to Austin last year, I came across Jenny Hart. Jenny Hart is the owner of Sublime Stitching. Sublime Stitching offers the essential embroidery tools and has the CUTEST embroidery scissors ever!

A couple of weeks ago, Ms. Hart posted these owl embroidery scissors and I fell instantly in love. I'm not a huge owl person, but I do have four pairs of bird embroidery scissors and these owl scissors would make a wonderful addition! At $22.50, they are a bargin! Those needleworkers out there know just how expensive embroidery scissors can be. These scissors are on my "must have" list!

Love #1 - MissPottery

I got engaged on December 19th of last year, so this shop holds a special place in my heart and on my sink and nightstand. MissPottery makes all sorts of stoneware pottery, but I just had to buy two beautiful ring holders.

I bought one in a light green and one in a pretty teal-y blue just like the one pictured to your left. I love the name- Put a Ring on It ring catcher. It's just so cute!

Usually, when I look at pottery, I look at the prices and sigh... I would love to buy everything, but the cost just breaks my bank account. Not with MissPottery though. I spent a small $24 for both of my lovely ring holders AND shipping.

And it's not just on the smaller items, her prices are so reasonable, like this Colorful Handmade Serving Bowl! It's only $22. Only $22. It's beautiful. It's stunning. It's FUNCTIONAL!

I love functional!

I also love the colors she uses. She mixes these pale subtle colors with more vibrant shades. The depth of color in some just blows my mind. The woman has talent. (I love talent too!)

That is why I couldn't help but pick her as Love #1 as we restart the blog.... She's just wonderful.

Brand New Beginning

It's been since August since we last posted. That's sad. Life really got in the way of posting for me, Sara, and the other gals, but we are back... and prettier than ever!

Sara, the lovely, talented, wonderful, Sara created a brand new layout and design for Oh, I Love That! I think she did a beautiful job making a design that fits perfectly with our idea of what this blog should be- Simple, fun and easy-to-read!

Here are a few other changes:

We have a new author, Tracy, but Winn and Kearsie won't be writing for us. We'll miss them, but I'm pretty postive, Sara, Kim, Marci, Tracy and I can keep you entertained!

While we are all constantly perusing the interwebs for interesting things, we sometimes miss out on cool things. You, if you are the crafty or business owner sort, now have the option to submit your shop for review!

I love Jeff Lewis. I not only love his design aesthetic but his ocd tendencies and how he "flips out". The new season of "Flipping Out" started last week on Bravo.

The show is about the design work of Jeff Lewis and the personalities of his clients, workers and pets. One of my favs is Jeff's maid Zoila, she is a character and one of the sweetest highlights of the show.

For us on the west coast the show starts at 10p.m. tonight!

This summer, my very ingenious daughter wanted tissue paper flowers in her room, so she scanned the internet to find out how to make them. She found that Martha Stewart had the most detailed instructions with pictures.

I usually like to monitor these kinds of crafts and then teach her the "how-to's", but I was busy. So, she proceeded without me and hunkered down in the art room for awhile. When she returned she had the most lovely tissue paper flower ever. Now she has become a tissue, paper flower machine and I have a flower in almost every room of my house.

oh i love the natasha embroidered bib necklace from stella & dot!

this is what caught my eye the first time i heard of stella & dot. isn't it just gorgeous? i mean. i like it so much, i can even look past the fact that jennifer love hewitt owns one.

all the beads are hand stitched onto silk. and the ribbon closure is absolutely divine allowing the necklace to be adjustable to fit your neckline. please keep in mind. although this necklace is quite full, it is not to be used as a substitute for a top.

my ears are pierced. twice. but i don't wear earrings. because my ears get all puffy and stuff. and plus. the holes are semi closed up.

these earrings are made with swarovski crystals, fresh water pearls, and antiqued brass earwires. doesn't that all sound sublime? i bet it does. especially if someone can pronounce "swarovski" correctly.

Ok, so I was "assisting" my lovely friend, Dee of Barefoot Bath and Body, at a craft show a while ago. I say "assisting" because I was mostly reading, browsing the other booths and shopping. I did it for free though.... It was fun.

BUT... One of the lovely people to peruse her booth was wearing a pair of awesome shoes. And, after I rudely tackled her in the crowd, she told me she got them at Lillian's. And it was right down the road.

Ok, I didn't tackle her, but I seriously went and bought the shoes that second. I don't have a picture of them, but they are sandals with bling. Dee and a neighbor vendor said they looked bondage-y, but I just think they are funky!

They also had tons of purses and glasses and jewelry... It was like girly-girl heaven. *nods*

Lillian's is in eight different states now too.

Did I tell you my cute, adorable, awesome, non-bondage-y shoes only cost $9? Oh, I didn't? Well, psh to me! Did I tell you that everything in the shop was incredibly cute and affordable? Well, just psh to me again!

The Pinot Grigio from Barefoot wine is one of my favorite things to drink this summer and it's pretty cheap too at $8.99 a bottle. It is very light, crisp and fruity.

Apart from being a great wine the company gives back to the community by creating the Barefoot Beach Rescue Project, designed to clean up beaches and ensure they are "Barefoot friendly".

So who knew you could have a glass of wine and be philanthropic at the same time?

I love Thai food. Seriously. It is so good. I've always loved good ole pad thai and when I went to Thailand recently for my honeymoon, I fell in love with the food even more. There's something about the spice and lime and cilantro all together with stir fried noodles that makes my mouth water. Since we've been home, I pulled out my thai cookbook and we've been having it a LOT.

I love making it at home because real thai food isn't all greasy like what you might get at your typical restaurant. Also, in Thailand, you're not going to find pad thai at many restaurants, cause it is full on street food. Non greasy, super cheap street food. yum!! The picture above was my lunch one day at a little restaurant stall. It cost about $1.50. Just more reasons to love thai food.

I immensely like games! And I absolutely love games that aren't difficult and are loads of fun too. Games that have endless pages of rules I avoid. So imagine the pure delight of playing a game that uses only cards, creativity and my personal fav, sarcasm. This game is called "Apples to Apples". I thought the general rules of the game were so nicely put together that I am going to copy and past.

"Apples to Apples starts off by players being dealt a pre-determined amount of cards. Once the cards are dealt the judge lays down a green card which will have a word printed on it. Players then lay down one card they have that fits the description on the green card laid down by the judge. Creativity is an essential part of this game. Sometimes the wackiest and craziest answers are chosen by the judge. If your card is chosen then you win the round. At the end, after each person has been the judge, players add up their green cards and whoever has the most wins!"

If you are looking for fun at a cheap price point this is a must! You'll be chortling the whole night away.

I obviously have a shoe problem... love.. adoration... Obsession. Whatever you want to call it, I gots it!

Well, I needed flip-flops because, well I broke mine while walking. I'm cool like that.

Anyway, I was browsing the shoes in Target and found these sweet Mossimo Laura Gladiators and I just had to have them!

Not only are they super cute, but they are so comfortable! Usually I don't like getting new flips because you have to break them in... You know how your toes get sore from the thongy part being all up in there? Well, these babies didn't even hurt me a bit! I barely felt them there, especially since they are fabric and not made of plastic or something weird.

And I have fat feet. No joke. Absolutely NO part of my chubby little feet fall off the base.... They are perfect.... And only $10! WHOOT! Cute, stylish and cheap! The perfect new shoes to love for the season!

As a photographer, I obviously have a thing for cameras, but there's something ultra fun and cool about vintage cameras. Back in the day before digital, before megapixels and memory cards, when taking a picture was done with much more care and planning (since you had to pay for all that film!), and hearing that definite *ka-chingk!* from the shutter gave you warm fuzzies. Ok, I'm not too sure about the warm fuzzies thing, but I'd like to think that's what happened. So humor me.

I bought a great little vintage camera on ebay from the 60's. It's a little boxy silver kodak model called the Brownie Fiesta. How awesome is that? It was only 5 bucks, totally still works, and is now sitting proudly on my shelf atop a stack of vintage hardcover books. The urge to buy more brothers and sisters for my lil brownie is growing. So, lover of all things vintage beware. Once you buy one, you will probably want more.

But! If you can't afford an army of cameras, but still want to display them in your house, you could always get a print, like this one! CB78's shop on Etsy is full of amazing prints like this. They are drawn with pencil and colored pencil. Amazing isn't it?! From far away they look totally real. And I can tell you, they are feeding fuel to the flame of my vintage camera love.

My husband and I recently moved to a great condo in a beautiful community that we're in love with. What we're not in love with: the size of the kitchen. It works, but there's not a lot of storage room. We were given this set of collapsible colanders in red from Dexas, and I am just in love.

They take up zero room and are always handy. I especially love the small one for washing fruit or straining a medium size pot worth of pasta. I don't know how much I would use a full sized colander, but I can tell you that I use at least one of these almost every single day.

It was purchased for us at a Sam's Club or a Costco, and while I couldn't find it on their websites, I'm sure it's still in the stores. And there are other models out there as well. I love them so much I can't imagine how I ever went without them before. It's a space saving must have for me now for sure!

I always chant this to myself when I rub lotion on my ashy body.

I also run away from the bathroom mirror when I turn off the light in case Bloody Mary gets me.

You could say I have issues. I would agree. *eye twitch*

Anyways, my skin loves me some lotion. My nose likes to smell OPI Avojuice Skin Quenchers. It's yummay!!!

My current favorite is the Crisp Apple Juicie and it definitely gets me in the mood for some bananas. Hah, you thought I'd say "apples", didn't you? Psych!

So the next time you need to rub the lotion on your skin to avoid that scary hose, try some Avojuice. And run really fast when you turn off the bathroom light.

I have been sporting my new black Bogs around the neighborhood lately. These nice rubbery, steel-toe work boots are my new love.

Last year whilst gardening I either wore sandals or tennis shoes. Sandals got my little toes wet and dirty AND also, I might have had toe contact with a worm or some bug that could eat flesh. So. Not garden worthy. Then with tennis shoes I had to wear socks. And being outside in the dirt with my feet getting wet my toes became hot and moist. Yikes. Not a good combo......... IF you know what I mean.

So, this year I found Bogs. In fact I am wearing my Bogs right now. Though I am not gardening I have a mouse in the kitchen and my Bogs make me feel safe.

I love big rings. I mean really big rings.

I'm not a dainty girl by any means, at 5'8". I'm also from good German stock, so I have rather big bones. My hands are the hardest part to find cute things for. I make jewelry, so I can resize my bracelets, but rings aren't very workable for me!

I've always loved Kellybot's pretty rings, but it wasn't until we did a show together (with other team members of HandmadeMN) that I actually got to see them up close! And, as that lover of big rings, I picked one that was 1 1/4 inch in diameter!

This sweet Adjustable Ring with Vintage Buttons looks to be the same size as mine. The really cool thing about her rings is that they are all adjustable, so even with big fingers like me, they fit! I also love that she uses vintage beads and buttons, so you know your piece is unique!

I have to admit, I had the hardest time picking just this one ring from her Ring Section but it's one of my favorites. (I could have posted more, but I'm afraid I would have just put them all up!)

And her Pendant Section along with her cute Bobby Pins made this a tough choice... But I'm positive this is my favorite!

A few months ago, my Bestie introduced me to the funniest website ever, called Very Mary Kate. It's a parody of Mary Kate Olson, starring Elaine Carroll, who also stars as Ashley Olson. So hard, I know, playing twins like that. Dressed in a blond wig, Elaine Carroll does a fantastic job of cramming the life and times of Mary Kate into tiny one minute episodes. Also, I wonder if she gets a headache making that face all crunched up and squinty and stuff? She's brilliant, I tell you.

#300. Really. I can't believe it.

Sara and I started this blog long ago, hoping to just show off some things we enjoy. Now, we have 200+ followers, almost 500 actual posts (including news, contest, feature fridays, friday funs, etc), and six authors.... Thanks Winn, Marci, Kim and Kearsie for joining us!

I really can't think of anything that would be better for #300 than to show off some of my favorite posts over the years.

Do you remember this post about CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara? I wasn't ranting and raving about how awesome the mascara was....

I actually said: "Obviously. in the commercials, Drew Barrymore is wearing false eyelashes along with the mascara... So, you see where I'm going with this: It doesn't create this huge feathery lashes for you unless you already have a bunch!"

Well, now they've come out with this CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion which is supposed to combine length and volume... And it does. I'm impressed.

I already have full, long lashes... People actually tell me they hate me because of them. Jokingly, I think. But this mascara makes them even longer and more lush! I'm in love!

Of course, it's not going to make you look like you have fakies on, but it will add more volume and length! I've tried two coats and then three. Three is perfection!

Is it worth the almost $9 price tag? I think so... But I don't leave the house without mascara on!

Just two weekends ago, I was participating in a fun craft show with a bunch of fellow Minnesotan artists and crafters that sell on Etsy. It was busy and fun.

Directly across from my booth was Ellie of My Little Chickadee Creations. I have checked out her shop before, but since I'm trying (barely) to save money, I just haven't shopped. Oh, and I've wanted to.

Being in such close proximity, I could hear her telling customers how she made them... What made her pick each design. Basically, I was just getting more amped up to buy a set of coasters.

I didn't even need to hear the method of creating... I was more than likely going to buy them anyway. So, when I spotted these adorable Tree Coasters, I just had to have them!

Also, I really have a thing for trivets. Yes, it's weird. Yes, I know. Thanks for thinking it though. Glad I'm not the only one. :D

BUT, they are so functional! And prettier than most pot holders (or stacks of newspaper like I tend to use...)!

And how can you go wrong with a personalized trivet, huh?! You can't!

oh i love pandora jewelry!

my girls' preschool director is retiring. and the preschool committee decided to get together and present a gift to her. well. i'm on said committee.

so one of the ladies suggested getting her each a charm for a charm bracelet. a pandora style bracelet. of course, i immediately thought it was the perfect idea. also. i had no idea what she was actually talking about. but i'm supportive that way. plus. i figured i'd find out when i went to purchase what i needed to purchase.

well. i went to my local hallmark and told them what i was supposed to get. and the girl showed me their whole collection of pandora charms. um. yes, please.

they're the cutest things ever. and while i'm probably one of the last people to discover pandora, i'm going to just pretend it's the newest trend and that i'm totally in the know about it all.

deciding on what charm (and spacer) to get was not as easy as i thought it would be. i looked and looked for a charm that would represent what the director means to me. and then bam. it hit me. the perfect charm.

i must say. in the end, it wasn't about meaning. it was more about... well, here. lemme show you the charm and spacer i decided on.

the little charm girl looks just like me my girls. see. i'm not going to forget the director. and this is my way to make sure she never forgets me my girls. so now, she'll always carry me my girls on her wrist. totally better than a picture. man. i'm way too smart for my own good.

oh i love covermate food covers!

i'm probably like the most popular person when it comes to potlucks. mainly because i bring the best foods. people flock to see the delicious platter in my hands. also. that's all in my head. but. i digress.

while the food i bring may be ~~95% untouched and left for me to bring home~~ for folks with extremely distinguished palates, there's no denying that i've got some great looking serving trays. unfortunately, trays don't come with lids. so i either stuff food in some small container and squish it down with a lid. or i saran wrap the heck out of it.

I'm so happy.

Why, you ask?

No, I didn't get a really good haircut.

No, I didn't get a mani/pedi.

No, my kids didn't magically learn to wash their own underwears.

I'm so happy, because I was given a gift certificate to this sweet shop in town and I bought myself this awesome item:

A market basket!

I loudly proclaimed with joy that I bought this awesome basket to anyone with ears. And most of them said, "Erm, that's cool, but what would you use it for?"

Well, sweet reader, let me count the ways:

*To carry food items, as mine is made with washable materials
*To go green at the Walmarts, instead of using another plasticy bag which I'm told will cause global warming or something
*To put all my craft items in for easy portability
*To keep in the car for easy transfer of um, stuff I have in my car
*To use for picnics

Seriously, this has so many options! I, personally, use it for my crafts ~~so my Hubs will quit griping at me~~ so all my stuff is not spread around.

I love it.
